Odisha: Bombs hurled at contractor’s camp, supervisor attacked with sword in Ganjam

Digapahandi: Some unidentified miscreants allegedly hurled bombs at local contractor Mangulu Patra’s camp near Hanuman temple at Damodarpur village of Kaithakhandi panchayat under Digapahandi block and K Nuagaon police limits in Ganjam district, a source said today.

The miscreants also attacked a man engaged in supervising road laying work at the construction site.

According to the source, the incident took place at around 2.00 pm. The supervisor identified as Ranjan Kumar Panda was attacked and a gold ring including some cash was snatched away from him. They also severely beat a machine operator and snatched around Rs 2,000.

“Six miscreants came near the camp by riding two motorcycles and hurled bombs. They frightened the supervisor and asked him to make a call to his employer over mobile phone. The miscreants demanded Rs 30,000 as extortion money. After the supervisor showed reluctance, they attacked him and warned that the construction work would not continue if extortion will not be paid,” Chikiti sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Krushna Chandra Bhatra expressed.

Police have registered a case (No-276/2023) in this connection and launched a probe.
