Odisha born Bikram Mohanty to contest US Senate polls as Democratic candidate

Bikram Mohanty, an occupational therapist and entrepreneur based in Georgia state of US, has emerged as the first person from Odisha to contest American Senate elections. The man from Chandbali has been nominated by US president Barrack Obama to contest as the Democratic Party candidate from Georgia.

Mohanty is contesting the Senate elections from Georgia state as the Democratic Party candidate for the second time. Last time, he had contested from the same seat in 2012 and had lost to Republican Party’s high profile leader Tim Golden by very few votes.

Mohanty is a native of Kuligaon under Chandbali block of Bhadrak district and is the son of social activist late Bata Krushna Mohanty and brother of Ajoy Kumar, Sanjay Kumar and Bisu Mohanty.

After completing his post graduation from National Institute for the Orthopaedically Handicapped at Kolkata in 1994 Mohanty left for the US to work there.

Mohanty is the founder and CEO of Innovative Rehab Solutions. In 2005, he was appointed to the White house Conference on Aging as an alternate delegate from Georgia. He served in Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce from 2002-2003.

He founded a non-profit organization, Mother Teresa Foundation, that works in healthcare and disease prevention issues that plague low income and homeless Americans.

Mohanty has set up his own hospitals at Valdosta, Atlanta and Florida and has earned a reputation for himself by serving physically handicapped and distressed Americans.
