Sanjeev Mohanty from Odisha has been appointed as the new chief executive officer (CEO) and managing director (MD) of the online fashion retailer Jabong.

The former UCB Managing director, Mohanty, did his Bacherlors in Commerce from Ravenshaw College from 1990-1993. He also holds a degree in Apparel Marketing & Merchandising, Fashion & Retail Marketing from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in 1995.

Mohanty comes with nearly 20 years of experience in the fashion industry, primarily at Benetton India where he worked for over 11 years including 8 years as the managing director.

His prior jobs before Benetton India, were in Madura Garments as its general manager, brand head for SF Jeans and at Levi Strauss as product manager for its top wear category.

Sanjeev Mohanty will join the company from early December, the company said in a statement on Saturday. With his appointment, for the first time the Indian e-commerce would witness a CEO from a traditional retailer heading an online venture in India.

Jabong is trying to revitalise its business and regain ground lost to rivals such as Flipkart, Myntra and Amazon India.

Jabong, run by Jade e-services private ltd after major changes in the past year brought chief financial officer at GFG Nils Chrestin as the interim CEO at Jabong.

Gurgaon-based Jabong was founded in 2011, offers over 350,000 products across its footwear, apparel, jewellery and accessories categories. It employs around 800 people.
