Odisha-born MIU professor paddles 2200 km for a cause

Bhubaneswar: Shameem SS Shaikh, a resident of Odisha’s Bhadrak town, embarked on a bicycle ride covering 2200 km in Malaysia to raise funds for underprivileged children’s education.

Shameem completed the solo expedition in a span of just 14 days.

The assistant professor at Manipal International University (MIU) finished the Malaysian peninsular ride backed by Rotary Kasih.

The Rotary Kasih Manipal (RKM) cycling campaign-2019 focused on spreading awareness about Rotary Kasih program: a Student Life Transformation Program. Shameem began his journey on July 27 and completed it on August 9.

During the campaign, he covered over 20 cities and regional councils in Malaysia where nearly RM 30000 (Rs 5 lakh) was raised.

Shameem worked as Assistant Professor of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipal University before moving to Malaysia nearly two years ago. Currently, he is working as an Assistant Prof., Dept. of Computer Engineering, School of Science & Engineering at MIU, Nilai, Malaysia.

As a cycling enthusiast, he had also cycled all the way from Bangalore to Koraput in 2016. Besides, he has also covered the entire length of India from Kanyakumari to Kashmir.
