Bhubaneswar: Odia mountaineer Satyaprakash Nanda achieved a rare feat by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, a dormant volcano in Tanzania and the highest mountain peak in South Africa.

Even though, Satyaprakash is an engineer by profession, his passion for trekking has put him on the top.

He set the record by scaling 19,341 ft mountain just in six days.

He received a certificate from Kilimanjaro National Park and Tanzania National Park for achieving the feat.

He belongs to Jagatsinghpur district in Odisha and is settled in Oregon in USA.

Satyaprakash, who keeps interest in trekking and long journey, had joined basic climbing education programme in Portland Mazamas Club in 2014 where he had learnt the tricks to cross hurdles and climb mountains.

Later, he had scaled many hills in Oregon and Colorado in USA. He achieved the success by climbing 11,250 ft mountain in Oregon.

Following the achievement, he decided to scale Mount Kilimanjaro in February 2017. For the mission, he had made 21-km long marathon practice. He reached South Africa from America on Nov 10 and started the trekking on Nov 13.

On the first day, Satyaprakash started climbing from Machame Gate and crossed 3000 mt in 5-6 hours. Finally, he reached the top on fourth day despite severe headache due to lack of oxygen.

It was less than any surprise for me. The hard labour with dedication in the past six months helped me to achieve the success, Satyaprakash said.
