Odisha boy Sumeet Sourav clinches first runner-up in international Salsa competition

Bhubaneswar: Sumeet Sourav brought laurel for Odisha by clinching first runner-up at international Salsa contest held in Paris recently.

Sumeet was the only contestant from India and Asia representing the country at the International Salsa Shines competition.

While Italy’s Michele El Mambo Gentile was placed first at Solo Men category of the first edition of International Salsa Shines, Sumeet secured second position and Stephane Pascual from Gerone-Catalonia bagged the third prize at the event.

The contestants from 17 countries had participated in the Salsa contest organised by David Tima.

Usually, the participants from European nations dominate the Salsa competition. However, Sourav created a new chapter with his success in Salsa, which is alien to Indians.

Hailing from Jeypore city in Koraput district of Odisha, Sumeet had learnt Zumba and Jazz from Ashley Labo. He is the son of eminent Odissi dancer Chandana Roul.

Earlier, he had participated in various workshops visiting Europe, Italy, Spain and Portugal for practicing the western dances.

He runs his own dance institute ‘The Dance House Project’ in New Delhi where he has been training his students the Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba and Latin dance.
