Odisha boy’s short film sets date with Mumbai film fest

Bhubaneswar: ‘Farchaa’, a short film made by Odisha boy Sisir Kumar Sahu has been shortlisted for screening at the 19th Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival beginning October 12.

The 25-minute long film was selected under ‘LARGE SHORT FILMS’ category. Total 10 best shot films have been shortlisted for the screening at the week-long festival.

‘Farchaa’ is scheduled to be screened on October 14 alongside 9 other films at the event, the director confirmed.

“It’s a team effort and makes us really happy that our film has been shortlisted under perfect ten short films for screening,” said elated Sisir Kumar Sahu thanking all the cast and crew of the film.

The short film depicts how the two men after retirement came to a railway track to commit suicide following ill-treatment by their children for years and change of their decision following a conversation between the two.

The short film is produced by Sahu’s wife Peenake Singh Rajput.

Sisir, an alumnus of the Biju Patnaik Film and Television Institute, Cuttack had worked with some top Bollywood filmmakers like Shyam Benegal and Ashutosh Gowarikar to learn the craft of filmmaking and going solo.

The 30-year-old hails from Keonjhar and has worked with Benegal in a ten parts television series on the making of the Indian Constitution for Rajya Sabha TV.

He had also worked as an assistant director to Ashutosh Gowarikar for Hrithik Roshan-starrer ‘Mohenjo Daro’.

The festival serves a great platform for the screening of a wide variety of films, from both the remotest corners of India and countries across the globe.

It will showcase 220 films from 49 countries and in 51 languages. Some of these languages, though Indian, are unheard of in the realm of cinema. Rare regional languages like Ladakhi, Chokri, Brij and Konkani will be in the offing at the festival this year.

Anurag Kashyap’s Hindi sports drama Mukkebaaz will open the festival this year.
