Odisha: Brown Sugar worth Rs 1.36 crore seized; 2 held

Balasore: Continuing its crackdown against illegal trade of drugs, the Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch (CB) seized a huge cache of brown sugar amounting to Rs 1.36 crore from Sahadevkhunta area in Balasore district yesterday. 

Acting on a tip-off, a team of STF conducted raid in Sahadevkhunta area and nabbed two drug peddlers- Manas Mukhi of Aradabazar and Kamalkanta Das of Haripur,  with 1.36 kg brown sugar. The police further seized a stolen motorcycle without registration number and other incriminating materials from their possession.

“The accused will be produced before the court today. A case under Sections 21(c) and 29 of NDPS Act, 1985 has been registered against them. The two were also involved in many other criminal cases,” informed police sources.

It is pertinent to mention here that STF, as part of its anti-drug drive, has seized more than 30 kg brown sugar and heroin and over 64 quintal (6400 kg) ganja since 2020. It has arrested over 100 drug dealers and peddlers in connection with the cases.
