Dhenkanal: A BSF jawan has been arrested today in connection with the sensational murder of a businessman on September 03.
The BSF jawan, identified as Sanjay Kumar, was arrested from Dibrugarh in Assam. He was posted on the Nepal-Assam border, the police informed.
According to police, the BSF jawan had killed Mantu Patra, a native of Medinipur of West Bengal running a jewellery store in Dhenkanal town. The murder was plotted by Patra’s wife Aruna who had an affair with the BSF man after the duo met on Facebook, police added.
Briefing reporters here, Dhenkanal SP Harekrushna Pradhan said the woman had told the BSF jawan that she will marry him if he can eradicate her husband for their world. After devising a strategy, the woman called her boyfriend to execute their plan.
On October 3, Aruna served breakfast mixing it with poison to her husband and when he became unconscious the BSF jawan had slit his throat by a knife as per the plan. He fled the spot soon after the incident, the SP added.
Though Aruna had lodged a complaint, the police had arrested her for her complicity in the entire case. Later she confessed to her crime before police during interrogation.
The police had launched a manhunt to nab the culprit after getting information from Aruna. The BSF jawan was arrested after tracking his mobile phone and examining his Facebook account.
