Odisha Budget 2023-24: New initiatives proposed by govt

Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government in Odisha has planned to launch several new initiatives in its Budget proposal for 2023-24 financial year.

The state government has proposed to spend Rs 750 crore for upgrading as many as 147 health centres across Odisha as Ama Hospitals.

It has planned to develop at least one health centre with high caseloads in each Assembly segment as Ama Hospital.

The government has also planned to create a revolving fund of Rs 2,000 crore for paddy procurement in Odisha. Besides, it has allocated Rs 139 crore for Chief Minister’s awards for education.

The Budget proposed to spend Rs 120 crore on Mukhyamantri Janajati Jeebika Mission in Odisha. The initiative aims at creating livelihood opportunities for ST people, sources said.

The state government has planned to create Mukhyamantri Kendu Leaf Welfare Fund of Rs 50 crore to address the problems of people working in the Kendu leaf sector.

The Budget, tabled by Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari in the Assembly today, proposed to spend Rs 126 crore on Coffee Mission.

Besides, the government has allocated Rs 1,446 crore for Chief Minister’s power development programme in Odisha.

The BJD government led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has planned to launch a new initiative called NUA (Nutan Unnata Abhilasha) Odisha with an allocation of Rs 100 crore.

In order to provide incentives to meritorious students, the state government will launch Mukhyamantri Medhabi Chhatra Protsahan scheme with a budgetary outlay of Rs 811 crore.

“Our government will spend Rs 150 crore under its new initiative of Mukhyamantri Disaster Resilient Saline Embankment scheme,” said the Finance Minister in his Budget speech.

The BJD government has made an outlay of Rs 100 crore for promotion of entrepreneurship among the members of women SHGs. Besides, it has allocated Rs 250 crore for Chief Minister’s Energy Conservation Programme, he added.

With an aim to boost tourism sector in Odisha, the state government has decided to spend Rs 100 crore for international air connectivity, said the Finance Minister.

“Our government has allocated Rs 50 crore for Mission Shakti Scooter Yojana. Under the scheme, the state government has planned to provide scooters to the members of Mission Shakti SHGs,” he said.

The Budget has allocated Rs 150 crore for Ama Bus Stand scheme, Rs 210 crore for Mukhyamantri Maschya Jibi Kalyan Yojana and Rs 250 crore for constructing buildings for Van Surakshya Samitis.
