Odisha businessman arrested for evading Rs 12.84 crore GST

Balangir: Owner of Sai International Mines & Minerals, Tirthankar Patel was today arrested in Titlagarh of Odisha’s Balangir district for allegedly evading Goods and Services Tax (GST) amounting to Rs 12.84 crore.

Acting on the directive of State GST Commission, a joint enforcement team raided Patel’s residence and arrested him around 11 am.

He was produced before the court of SDJM, Titlagarh and sent to judicial custody after rejection of his bail plea.

The accused has evaded the tax through fake bills of purchase of items worth Rs 84.68 crore and sale of items costing Rs 84.71 crore without buying or selling anything, an official said.
