Odisha businessman rapes married woman for 6 years; complaint filed

Cuttack: A married woman has filed a complaint at the Malgodown police station in Odisha’s Cuttack alleging that a city-based businessman raped her for six years after luring her with a promise of providing job to her husband.

As per the complainant, accused businessman Basanta Kumar Bala, Director of In Machineries & Equipments Private Limited, had initially established physical relation with her forcibly when she visited him for discussion regarding job for her husband in the accused’s company.

The businessman then forced the woman to maintain intimacy with him and also threatened the victim to kill her husband, she alleged, adding that he raped her multiple times during the last six years at different places in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Paradip.

On March 17 night, the accused took her to a hospital in the city, where he forced her to undergo certain tests. As she opposed it, he took the woman to an unknown location and thrashed her, she said.

“I somehow managed to escape from the place and later filed a complaint with the Malgodown police,” the woman said.

Police have registered a case under sections 376(2)(n), 323, 506, 25 of the IPC, and relevant sections of the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Further investigation was underway.
