Bhubaneswar: Odisha based vet-cum-businessman Dr Manas Ranjan Das, who was abducted along with his two associates in neighbouring state Jharkhand a week ago, his mother sought intervention of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for his rescue.

Shakuntala Mishra, mother of the abducted businessman, visited Naveen Niwas on Sunday to meet the CM. As Patnaik was absent in his residence, she submitted an application to an official requesting the CM to rescue her son.

According to reports, Dr Das was abducted on August 23 while he along with his two associates was on his way to Bhubaneswar from Hajipur in Bihar where he runs a poultry feed processing plant. He was returning hometown in a car via Jharkhand.

After his wife Honey Dutt lodged a complaint with Dumri police in Jharkhand on Thursday, probe has been launched by a special task force formed by Giridih SP Akhilesh B Variar.

However, Jharkhand police failed to trace Dr Das' whereabouts so far.

Sources said that police found a Mercedes car, bearing registration number OR-09P/9999, from a roadside near Kasturba high school under Dumri police limits and recovered a TV set, two LPG cylinders, stove and a dish TV accessories. Police contacted Dr Das' wife about the car after verifying the number following which the family reached Dumri police station and lodged a kidnapping case.

The Jharkhand police had information about involvement of notorious gangster Ram Singh behind abduction of Odisha businessman. The special task force raided the hideouts of criminals in several locations in Jharkhand, Bihar and West Bengal.

Besides, a team of Jharkhand police arrived in Bhubaneswar two days ago. They are interrogating his family residing at Chandrasekharpur area here.

According to preliminary investigation, police came to know that the kidnappers were in police uniform. Dr Das and his two associates were abducted in a SUV.
