Odisha businessman’s minor son abducted, killed for Rs 50 lakh ransom

Bhubaneswar: The 15-year-old son of a businessman in Jharsuguda district of Odisha was allegedly abducted and killed for a ransom of Rs 50 lakh on March 28.

The body of victim Samarth Agrawal, son of Sunit Agrawal of Sarbahal area of Jharsuguda, was recovered from Bheden area of Bargarh district, police said.

According to sources, some miscreants had allegedly abducted Samarth from Jharsuguda during the evening hours of March 27 and sought a ransom of Rs 50 lakh from his father. They killed the boy in the night hours of March 28 after the victim’s family did not pay the ransom, sources said.

The police in Jharsuguda today arrested two persons after registering a case in this regard.

The arrested have been identified as Amit Kumar Sharma of Biju Nagar in Jharsuguda and Dinesh Agrawal of Gandhichhak area in Brajarajnagar, police said.

“We are now probing the incident. Our officials are trying to find out whether the minor boy was killed for ransom or any other reasons,” said Jharsuguda Superintendent of Police Parmar Smit Parshottamdas.
