Odisha Cabinet okays piped water supply projects; nearly 8.50 lakh people to be benefitted

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Cabinet today approved proposals for execution of mega piped water supply projects to benefit nearly 8.50 lakh people in four districts — Koraput, Rayagada, Jagatsinghpur and Angul.

The proposals of Panchayatiraj & Drinking Water Department were okayed at the State Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here today.

The mega piped water supply projects to provide safe drinking water will be executed under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) funding benefitting total 8,49,531 people of 1,395 villages under 10 blocks in four districts.

By execution of the projects, around 1,61,902 people of 167 villages under 31 Gram Panchayats of 2 blocks in Koraput district, 35,404 people of 129 villages under 15 GPs of 2 blocks in Rayagada district, 4,32,916 people of 544 villages under 85 GPs of 4 blocks in Jagatsinghpur district and 2,19,309 people of 555 villages under 47 GPs of 02 blocks in Angul district.

The state cabinet has approved the tender of Hyderabad-based NCC Limited amounting to Rs 261.97 crore (Rs. 261,97,41,050) and Rs 356.68 crore (Rs. 356,68,26,271) for execution of the mega piped water supply project in Koraput and Angul districts.

Similarly, the project in Rayagada and Jagatsinghpur districts will be carried out by Standard Infratech India Pvt Ltd in joint venture with Hyderabad-based Surya International Enterprise Pvt Ltd at cost of Rs 114.68 crore and Chennai-based Larsen & Toubro at cost of Rs 431.10 crore (Rs 431,10,90,502) respectively. The projects will be completed within a period of 24 months.
