“With its rich natural resources, Odisha has the potential to become the No 1 state in the country. You have seen the progress that BJP ruled states have achieved. It is time Odisha joined the list of fast growing states by voting for a BJP government,” Shah said addressing a massive rally at the Unit VI ground here this afternoon.

Odisha’s mineral wealth is helping the progress of the nation, but the state itself remains underdeveloped, the BJP President said.

“That is why the Narendra Modi government has taken a decision to plough back the revenue generated from minerals to the states where they are extracted from. Jharkhand and Odisha are going to be the biggest beneficiaries of the decision,” he said. This is part of the Modi government’s plan to ensure the rapid development of the resource rich eastern states, he added.

Taking potshots at the Naveen Patnaik government, Shah pointed out that just 14% of people in the state have access to safe drinking water while only 22% have toilets at their homes after 14 years of BJD rule. “There are hospitals, but no doctors; schools, but no teachers. Corruption has become a way of life in the state,” he said.

Coming down hard on the Congress party, the BJP leader said; “Rahul Baba is asking us for a report card on what we have done in the last six months. I ask you, first give a report card on what your family has done in the 60 years that your family ruled the country?”

Maintaining that the faulty UPA policies had pushed the nation into inflation, high prices and low growth, Shah said the turn around had started with the coming to power of the Modi government at the Centre. Petrol and diesel prices have come down by as much Rs 10 while food inflation has nosedived significantly, he pointed oout.

Turning his attention to skirmishes on the border, Shah said; “Cross border firing happened earlier too. But what has changed is the way India has responded to border violations by our neighbour.”

Commending the Coast Guard for foiling the Pak sponsored terror attack mid-sea, the BJP President lambasted the Congress for questioning the government version of the operation on the Arabian Sea.

The news is partial because there are other speakers too in the meeting like KV Singhdeo, Dharmendra Pradhan and Jual Oram – Union Ministers and others. There is no mention of these names. Further the angle of softness towards naveen patnaik is also not seen in the news which is expected since last couple of days. So I think these angels should be high lighted in the news.

There is also no comments on Shree Jagannath cult issue which is a focal point in Shah’s speach.

Looking at RBI data on deposits, Odisha is the fastest growing state in the country (last 5 years) so not sure what a BJP Govt will bring to the table. As far as toilets and water is concerned, he should look no further than MP and CSG which are in an equally pitiable stage after 14 years of BJP rule. This whole idea that BJP is some sort of benchmark on quality governance is really not borne by facts on the ground. There are good and bad amongst all parties, they are all cut from the same cloth
