Odisha capital-bound AI flight makes emergency landing in Mumbai

Passengers on board Bhubaneswar-bound Air India flight from Mumbai had a close shave today as the flight made an emergency landing at Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport following a technical snag.

According to reports, the crew members of AI-669 spotted smoke in the cockpit moments after take off at around 2.15 pm. The flight carrying around 155 passengers had to make an emergency landing at the airport after being airborne for about 35 minutes.

Following this, a full emergency was declared for the flight which was later withdrawn.

Notably, former hockey Olympian and BJD MP Dilip Tirkey was among the travellers who boarded the flight from Mumbai.

The passengers were evacuated safely and arrangements were made to accommodate them on to another aircraft.

Sources said that another flight carrying these passengers left Mumbai airport at 4.15 pm and arrive at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) at 6.40 pm. The flight will make its return journey at 7.10 pm.
