Bhubaneswar: The State capital recorded its coolest December day on Sunday in the past 26 years with mercury dipping to 8.2 degree Celsius, a Met department official said.

Bhubaneswar had recorded its second lowest minimum temperature of 6.2 deg C last on December, 1992.

According to the weatherman, the temperature in the city dropped more than eight degrees below the normal.

Meanwhile, severe cold wave was sweeping most parts of the State as 13 places recorded temperature below 8 degree Celsius.

Daringbadi, known as the Kashmir of Odisha in Kandhamal district, shivered at 3 degree Celsius, along with snowfall at various places its nearby.

A similar lowest minimum temperature of the season was also recorded at several places in the State, including the coastal pockets. Cities which experienced minimum temperatures include Cuttack (8.2), Balasore (7.8), Balangir (7.1), Sambalpur (7.3), Jharsuguda, Angul (5.6), Phulbani (4.5) and Titlagarh (7).

The cold wave condition in the State will prevail for a few more days. “Similar cold wave like condition will continue for at least five more days from today,” said Sudarsan Das, an IMD Meteorologist, Bhubaneswar.

The night temperature is very likely fall below normal by 3 to 4 deg C during the the next three to four days in various districts of the State, Met office predicted.
