Odisha: Capital Hospital to be shifted to Patia!

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is mulling to shift Capital Hospital to Chandrasekharpur-Patia area in the city here.

The General Administration department may provide 35 acres of land in Chandrasekharpur-Patia-Gadakan area for the purpose, sources said.

The Health department is planning to separate Capital Hospital from Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER). The PGIMER will remain at its present location in Unit-6 area of the city while the Capital Hospital will be relocated to Chandrasekharpur-Patia area, said a source.

The present location of Capital Hospital and PGIMER is surrounded Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA), Odisha Assembly, Secretariat, Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) and quarters of several senior government officials. The Health department is planning to shift Capital Hospital to a new location to facilitate further infrastructure development for both the institutes, it added.

“There is a proposal to raise the number of beds at PGIMER and Capital Hospital to 3,200 from the present level of 750. The Health department is likely to face space crunch to add more beds to the two institutes. So, it is mulling to relocate Capital Hospital to Chandrasekhapur-Patia area to facilitate infrastructure development,” said the source.
