Odisha Capital logs highest-ever single-day spike in Covid cases

Bhubaneswar: The city today reported a record number of Covid positive cases. As per the data provided by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), as many as 1,044 more Covid positive cases were detected in last 24 hours till 9 AM today.

This is the first time the Odisha Capital reported 1,000-plus Covid positive cases. So far, the Covid positive tally in the city reached 42,445.

Of the total positive cases reported today, 219 were from quarantine cases and 525 were local contact cases, the BMC data mentioned.

In last 24 hours, as many as 447 Covid patients recuperated from the disease. The total number of recovery cases in the city so far was 35,674.

Till now, 257 Covid patients in the city have succumbed to the disease.

Meanwhile, in a joint enforcement, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation and the Commissionerate Police sealed the Market Building Unit-II due to violation of the Covid protocols today evening.

Also, the municipal corporation asked fast food joints at Bapuji Nagar in Bhubaneswar to remain shut for 48 hours for violation of Covid guidelines.

The ID Market, shops at Rental Square and VSS Nagar Haat in Bhubaneswar were also closed for 48 hours.
