Odisha capital to be fully Wi-Fi enabled by Nov next year

A month prior to the commencement of Hockey World Cup in Odisha capital, the Temple city will be fully Wi-Fi enabled by November next year, said Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi here today.

“Fiber Optic Network would be spread across the city and 1800 Wi-Fi access points would be set up. With this, people can access free internet service for a specified period. This will help lessen the digital divide and extend e-governance facilities,” Chief Secretary AP Padhi said.

A high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today deliberated on implementation of several pan-city Smart Solutions Projects.

The Chief Minister directed to implement the project prior to the Hockey World Cup due in December next year to be played here.

Around Rs 550 crore would be spent towards traffic management, electronic parking system, transit operations, common payment card, emergency response and city incident management system, city command and control centre for unified delivery of urban services to its citizens, smart waste management, smart water management, smart energy, smart environment and city Wi-Fi among other amenities.

Very soon the state government would launch Computer Aided Dispatch and Automated Vehicle Location ((CAD/AVL) system with which citizens here can avail the services/information on PCR van, ambulance, fire tender, water tanker, and timing of transport buses among other things with the help of a mobile application.

In a bid to decongest the city from traffic woes, the state government would launch an application with which citizens can get the information about availability of traffic space around the city. Besides, 30 emergency call centres would be set up where people can get information by dialing 112.
