Bhubaneswar: Two more crematoriums will be made operational in the Odisha Capital soon. This was informed by Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary today.

He further informed while on gas-based crematoriums will come up in Patia area another one powered by electricity will be set up in Khandagiri area. Work on these two crematoriums will be completed in a month.

Currently, the city has one crematorium at Satya Nagar where more than 25 dead bodies are being cremated.

Locals alleged they have been living in an unhealthy condition as persons died of Covid are also being cremated at the Satya Nagar crematorium. To express their displeasure and draw the attention of the BMC Commissioner, locals also staged demonstration in front of the BMC office.

There was an increase in the number of dead bodies brought to the Satya Nagar crematorium in recent past due to the pandemic. Keeping the unhappiness of locals in mind and burden on the Satya Nagar crematorium, the BMC decided to set up another two crematoriums, an official said.
