Odisha CEO orders re-polling in 2 booths of Kantamal Assembly segment in Boudh

Bhubaneswar: The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO)-Odisha today ordered re-polling in at least two booths coming under Kantamal Assembly constituency of Boudh district and Kandhamal parliament segment.

Accordingly, the Booth No-26 and Booth No-28 will go for re-polling on May 23. As per the CEO order, polling will begin at 7.00 AM and will continue till 4.00 PM.

The official order was issued based on instructions given by the Election Commission of India (ECI) and close on the heels of alleged booth rigging and other irregularities.

The Commission directed the District Electoral Officers and Collectors of Boudh and Kandhamal to duly inform the schedule of re-polling to MP as well as MLA candidates and voters concerned in the two booths.

Notably, the ECI appointed Dilip Kumar Mohapatra as the Additional Collector of Boudh district and Returning Officer for Kantamal Assembly constituency.

BJP state unit had alleged favouritism by the on-duty presiding officer in the two booths of Kantamal Assembly constituency. Around 30 persons were later injured in a police-public faceoff.
