Odisha: Chhatrapur ITI unveils INS Vikrant replica made from scrap on Navy Day

Bhubaneswar: The students of Chhatrapur Government ITI in Odisha’s Ganjam district have made a replica of INS Vikrant, the first indigenously-built aircraft carrier, by using scrap materials.

The 70-foot-long, 30-foot-tall and 10-foot-wide replica was unveiled on the premises of the ITI on the occasion of Navy Day in India today.

Chhatrapur MLA Subash Chandra Behera unveiled the replica of INS Vikrant in the presence of students and teachers of the ITI.

Notably, INS Vikrant was built by Cochin Shipyard Limited in Kerala with an expenditure of around Rs 23,000 crore.

The blueprint of the 262-metre long and 62-metre wide aircraft carrier was made in 1999 the naval vessel was commissioned in 2022. INS Vikrant can carry at least 30 military aircraft, sources said.

“We used huge quantities of scrap materials including plastic bottles to build this replica of INS Vikrant. Students from various trades of the ITI worked for around a year to build it. We have decorated the replica with small plants to make people aware of issues like global warming and climate change,” said Pravat Kumar Pradhan, a second year student of Electrician trade.

The Chhatrapur legislator lauded the efforts of the students and teachers of the ITI to build the replica from scrap materials.
