Odisha chit fund panel serves public notice to 576 firms

Bhubaneswar: Justice MM Das Commission probing the multi-crore chit fund scam in Odisha served public notice to as many as 576 firms for failing to appear before the panel.

In the notice through newspapers, the ponzi firms have been asked to depose before the Commission between April 15 and September 24 this year.

Sources said that public notice was slapped on 199 chit fund companies having office addresses for not appearing before the panel. The notice was sent to another 377 firms, whose addresses and details are not available with the Commission.

Notably, the State government has extended the tenure of Justice MM Das Commission by an additional six months. The probe panel has identified 2,18,354 small depositors so far in sixth phases recommending the government for a refund of their deposits.
