Odisha chit fund scam: Bail pleas of builder Sagar Ray, AT Director rejected

The special CBI court today rejected the bail pleas of builder Sagar Ray and former Artha Tatwa (AT) Group director Sambit Khuntia arrested by the CBI for their links with the  AT Group, a major player in multi-thousand crore mega chit fund scam in Odisha.

While builder Sagar Ray, one of the proprietors of Orison Properties Ltd, a city-based real estate firm, was arrested by the CBI on November 14, Khuntia was arrested by the CBI on August 16 following a raid at his residence located at the Bata Mangala Housing Board colony in Khordha district.

Ray was arrested by the CBI for his alleged involvement in the land deals of the AT Group and construction of apartments and duplex houses in the city. He had appeared before the CBI on November 14 and was arrested after a three and half hour long grilling.

Earlier, he was questioned by the CBI twice on November 11, first in the afternoon and then again in the night.

Both Ray and Khuntia are presently lodged in the Jharpada jail here.
