Tripathy’s lawyer Omprakash Ray confirmed the rejection to OST, but declined to share the grounds on which the court did so.

The court, which completed hearing on Tripathy’s bail plea on December 2, had kept its verdict reserved and had fixed today for pronouncing its verdict.

While Tripathy’s counsel, during the December 2 hearing, had pleaded for his bail on health grounds, the CBI counsel had argued against allowing him to go on bail arguing that he could tamper with evidence and influence witnesses as he was a powerful person.

Tripathy was arrested by the CBI on September 30 for his links with the AT Group and has been charged with having illegal monetary transactions with the AT Group and criminal conspiracy.

The special CBI court here had rejected Tripathy’s bail plea on November 13 and had sent him to jail following which he had moved the Khordha district and sessions court seeking bail.
