Odisha: Civic authorities ban movement of cattle on Bhubaneswar roads

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has imposed a ban on the movement of cattle on the roads of the capital city here.

The BMC claimed that the movement of cattle on the city roads has been causing unnecessary obstructions in vehicular traffic and mishaps for motorists. Even, some bikers have lost their lives in mishaps caused due to the movement of cattle on the city roads, said the civic authorities.

“It has been observed that movement of cattle on the city roads is a major cause of road accidents in Bhubaneswar city. Most of the mishaps are occurring at night due to poor visibility,” said the BMC.

Movement of cattle on city roads has been declared illegal, said the BMC in a notification recently.

“The cattle found roaming on the roads of the capital city would be relocated to animal welfare centres (AWCs) at Jamukoli and Jatni, and Govind Go Sevashram in Puri, added the notification.
