Odisha civic body polls: HC seeks reply from SEC, Chief Secy in 4 weeks

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court today served a notice to the State Election Commission (SEC) and the Chief Secretary seeking a reply in connection with the writ petitions filed in the HC for immediate conduct of civic body polls.

The HC asked them to furnish the reply within four weeks, informed senior lawyer Pitambar Acharya.

Worth mentioning, three writ petitions were filed in the court by different leaders seeking direction from the state Government and the SEC for immediate conduct of civic body polls in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Puri.

While former bureaucrat Prasanna Mishra filed the writ petition from Bhubaneswar, ex-Minister and senior BJP leader Samir Dey moved the court from Cuttack and BJP MLA Jayant Sarangi from Puri town.

Elections to urban local bodies in the state are pending since 2018 due to the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic.
