A group of civil society leaders and activists today met Odisha Governor SC Jamir and submitted a memorandum demanding removal of retired Justice MM Das from chit fund scam probe panel.

“Today we met the Governor and sought ouster of Justice MM Das for the misleading statement he made on chit fund scam victims,” said RTI activist Pradeep Pradhan who was part of the delegation.

Notably, Odisha Assembly was stalled for the second day today over the issue. Besides, Congress staged a demonstration in Cuttack yesterday seeking his ouster.

While addressing a gathering of BJD legal front on April 28, Justice Das had said, “When somebody invests money in a company, both the company and the investor enter into an agreement on the refund pattern. Why should the government now compensate investors from its coffers when a fraud has occurred?”

He has since clarified that he had gone there as a retired judge, not as the chairperson of the inquiry commission and that whatever he said there was his personal opinion.
