Odisha: Class 6 student dies in hostel; family alleges negligence by school authorities

Baliguda: A Class 6 student died under mysterious circumstances at a hostel of one state-run school at Bataguda under Baliguda tehsil in Odisha’s Kandhamal district.

The deceased student has been identified as Satyananda Nayak, a student of Bataguda Govt High School run by Odisha ST & SC Development, Minorities & Backward Classes Welfare Department.

The family of the deceased minor boy alleged negligence by school authorities for the sudden death of the student at the hostel.

According to reports, the 12-year-old boy lost consciousness after having a meal at the hostel on Saturday. The school authorities rushed the student to the Baliguda SDH where the doctors declared him brought dead.

The school’s headmistress Padmini Pradhan said that the health condition of the student was well. After he fell ill, he was taken to the hospital.

However, the family brought negligence allegation against the school authorities for death of the student.

“Two days ago, the minor boy’s mother had visited him at the hostel and he was completely fine. After two days, we got the information from villagers that he is dead. Even the school authorities did not inform us about the incident. When we approached the doctor, he said that the boy had already died before reaching the hospital. It indicates that he died at the hostel due to negligence by school authorities,” said the deceased’s uncle, demanding compensation from the school for loss of the life.
