Odisha: Classes at Rendo Majhi Medical College likely to get delayed

Bhubaneswar: Teaching at the newly-established Rendo Majhi Medical College at Bhawanipatna in Odisha’s Kalahandi district may get delayed as the authorities are yet to finish the admission process.

The authorities are now conducting counselling to fill 100 MBBS seats allotted to the medical college. However, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has asked the college to start classes on September 1.

Of the total seats, 85 to be filled up from state quota while the remaining 15 seats are supposed to go to the central quota, sources said.

“Some students have taken admissions under the state quota in the first phase of counselling. As of now, only one student has taken admission under the central quota. The classes will start after the completion of the admission process,” said a source.

As many as 42 teaching staff including seven Professors, 16 Associate Professors and 19 Assistant Professors have recently joined the medical college, sources said.

The NMC had given is approval to the medical college in April this year.
