Odisha CM announces compensation for MCL accident victims

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced compensation to be given to the family of miners who died in the coalfield accident of MCL.

Ex-gratia of Rs. 5 lakh each to the next of the kin of the deceased persons in Talcher coal mines accident has been announced by the CM.

Worth mentioning, of the three missing miners, the body of pump house operator, Rajkishore Mohapatra was recovered today, thus taking the death toll to two, so far. Reportedly, a leg of another missing labourer has also been recovered today.

Notably, 13 workers along with machinery were trapped when a portion of earth broke loose, thus trapping them. Nine workers have been rescued in critical condition so far and two others are still missing.

MCL issued a statement and said that labourers working in the night shift at Bharatpur open cast mine came under a dump slide due to a strata failure. The accident occurred between 11 pm and 11.30 pm on June 23.
