Odisha CM announces ex-gratia for Jajpur train mishap victims

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has condoled the death of six contractual labourers at at Jajpur-Keonjhar Road station in Odisha today.

The Chief Minister also announced ex-gratia compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased labourers.

The compensation will be paid from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF).

“The Chief Minister asked the authorities concerned to provide proper treatment to the injured labourers,” said an official.

Notably, six contractual labourers died after they were run over by a goods train at Jajpur-Keonjhar Road station in the afternoon.

A private contractor had engaged the workers to carry out some railway work.

The incident occurred when the labourers were taking shelter under the stationary goods train during Nor’wester rain in the locality in the afternoon. Two labourers also sustained critical injuries in the mishap, sources said.

The deceased have been identified as Manas Samal, Goutam Samal, Susanta Jena, Dolagobinda Pradhan, Vimsen Jena and Prashant Jena, sources added.
