Odisha CM condoles death of jawan in Maoist attack

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today expressed grief over the death of a District Voluntary Force (DVF) jawan in Maoist attack in Malkangiri district.

“Deeply anguished by the death of a District Voluntary Force (DVF) jawan, Jayaram Kabasi in Maoist attack in Malkangiri. Convey my heartfelt condolences for the martyred jawan and wish the bereaved family has courage to overcome the irreparable loss,” the CM tweeted.

A group of Maoists, positioned atop a hill at Bonda Ghat in the district, opened fire at SOG and DVF personnel when the security forces were carrying out a combing operation in the forest.

In the exchange of fire between the extremists and jawans, Kabasi died. Another jawan, identified as Ramsingh Durua, sustained injuries and has been sent to Visakhapatnam for treatment.

A Maoist was also killed in the encounter while other red rebels fled into the dense forest.
