Odisha CM condoles death of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today condoled the death of his Jammu and Kashmir counterpart Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, who passed away this morning while undergoing treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi.

“Condole sad demise of J&K CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed..May his soul rest in peace..,” Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said in a tweet.

Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also expressed his grief over Mufti’s demise.

“From being the Home Minister at the Centre to the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has proved his ability of being an excellent administrator. My heartfelt condolences with the grief-stricken family,” Pradhan said in a statement.

Fourteen days after he was hospitalised to AIIMS, Sayeed breathed his last today. He suffered multiple organ failure.

President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and leaders cutting across party lines expressed their condolences over the untimely demise of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister.

“Mufti Sahab’s demise leaves a huge void in the nation & in J&K, where his exemplary leadership had a major impact on people’s lives. RIP,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted.

“What stood out about Mufti Sahab was his statesmanship. In his long political journey he won many admirers across the political spectrum,” he said in another tweet.

“Mufti Sahab provided a healing touch to J&K through his leadership. He will be missed by all of us. Condolences to his family & supporters,” he tweeted.

Sayeed, 79, is survived by his wife, three daughters, including PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, and a son.
