Odisha CM condoles the demise of noted Bhajan singer Shantilata Barik; accords cremation with full State honours

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today condoled the sad demise of noted Bhajan singer Shantilata Barik. The departed singer will be cremated with full State honours, the CM said.

In his condolence message, the CM stated that popular singer Shantilata was an unparalleled devotee of Lord Jagannath. She was a household name across Odisha for her devotional songs on the Lord.

Shantilata’s Bhajans were emotion-filled and dedicated song offerings to the deity. Her Bhajans had been creating devotion in the hearts of listeners and her sad demise is an irreparable loss to the State’s cultural world, the CM further said.

The Chief Minister wished that Shantilata’s soul would rest in peace. He expressed his deep compassion to the bereaved family of the departed singer.

Worth mentioning, Shantilata died while undergoing treatment in a private hospital here. She was sick for quite a prolonged time.

Born in Khurda district on October 1, 1960, the eminent singer completed her Acharya Degree in Odissi Music from Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya of Bhubaneswar.
