Odisha CM congratulates para-athletes Praveen Kumar and Unni Renu on winning medals

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today congratulated two para-athletes from the country for their success in Asian Para Games 2022 in Hangzhou.

The Chief Minister also wished them saying that they may shine even brighter and bring more laurels to the country in the days ahead.

Taking to his personal ‘X’ handle, the CM wrote, “Congratulate athletes Praveen Kumar and Unni Renu on winning Gold and Bronze medals respectively in the Men’s High Jump – T64 event at #AsianParaGames. May they shine even brighter and bring more laurels to the country. Wish them best for the future. #OdishaForSports.”

Worth mentioning, the Asian Para Games, also known as Para Asiad, is a multi-sport event regulated by the Asian Paralympic Committee that’s held every four years after every Asian Games for athletes with physical disabilities. Three nations have hosted the Asian Para Games and forty-four nations have participated in the Games, so far.

Both events adopted the strategy used by the Olympic and Paralympic Games of having both games in the same city. However, the exclusion of Asian Para Games from Asian Games host city contract meant that both events run independently of each other.

The Games are recognised by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and are described as the second largest multi-sport event after the Paralympic Games.
