Odisha CM demands for special train in name of Buxi Jagabandhu

Khordha: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today demanded the Centre for a special train in name of Buxi Jagabandhu in Odisha.

Attending the foundation stone laying ceremony for Paika Rebellion Memorial at Barunei hills in Khordha, Patnaik said, “the state government has been demanding the Centre to declare Paika rebellion as the first freedom movement of India. Besides, I demand for a special train in name of Buxi Jagabandhu.

He said that Odisha was unconquered till 1803 because of patriotism and chivalry of soldiers of the state. These Odisha Paikas (soldiers) had declared the first war against British rule in 1817.

He termed the Paika Rebellion (armed rebellion) as the mass movement in which entire Odisha had participated against British East India Company.

He paid his tribute to Buxi Jagabandhu, who had led the war, and other fighters on occasion of foundation stone laying programme.

Patnaik accompanied President Ram Nath Kovind, who laid the foundation stone to build Paika Rebellion Memorial at Barueni hills.

Speaking on the occasion, CM said that the state government has provided land for the structure and he is committed to extend all sorts of support for infrastructure development.

He hoped that the President will consider to meet his demands for interest of Odisha.
