Odisha CM directs officials to enforce firecracker ban

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today directed Covid Observers appointed for each district to undertake visits to ensure the order for ban on the sale and use of firecrackers has been adhered.

During a weekly review meeting through video conference, the Chief Minister said any complacency towards the Covid-19 pandemic is not acceptable. He also ordered District Collectors and SPs to ensure strict enforcement of the firecracker ban order in all the districts.

The Odisha government yesterday prohibited the sale and use of firecrackers across the State from November 10 to 30, 2020 to make air less polluted and breathable in view of the pandemic.

Patnaik said as there are chances of second phase viral infection after second week of December everyone has to be careful. He urged people to wear mask, maintain social distance and practice hand washing frequently to avoid difficult situations like lockdown.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister said officials must ensure that livelihood of people from weaker sections do not get affected.

The Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary of Health and Family Welfare Department, Special Relief Commissioner, Development Commissioner, 5T Secretary and other senior officials were present during the meeting.
