Odisha CM inaugurates Biju Expressway, economic corridor

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated Biju Expressway at Amapani and Biju Economic Corridor from Sohela in Bargarh to Amapani in Kalahandi on the occasion of the 107th birth anniversary of former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik today.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated several developmental projects worth Rs 3,081 crore in Bargarh, Kalahandi and Nuapada districts.

“Biju Expressway is the lifeline of this region. This expressway will boost economic development in the entire state. The Biju Economic Corridor from Sohela to Amapani will facilitate investment and establishment of new industries in the region,” said the Chief Minister.

The state government will provide additional incentives to the investors to set up their industries at Biju Economic Corridor. The economic corridor will benefit the people of Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri districts, he added.

“The corridor will boost economic activities in the western and southern Odisha. It will also give a fillip to tourism,” said the Chief Minister.

The four-laning of Ghatipada-Amapani Biju Expressway has been completed in one year. The state government has spent Rs 590.84 crore on the project, he added.

“The Sambalpur-Rourkela road was the brainchild of legendary leader Biju Patnaik. Biju Babu had started construction of the road in 1993. I have following the footsteps of Biju Babu to build a prosperous Odisha,” Patnaik said.
