Odisha CM launches direct benefit transfer in state

Pipili, May 9:

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today launched direct cash transfers (also known as direct benefit transfer or DBT) of subsidy to the bank account of the beneficiary in the state at the state-level Akshay Tritiya celebrations held at Laxminarayanpur gram panchayat in Pipili area of Puri district.

Under the scheme, Ramesh Rout, a farmer of Laxminarayanpur was the first among the beneficiaries to receive the subsidy for seeds in his bank account.

“Arrangements have been made for direct cash transfer of subsidies to the beneficiaries account,” said Chief Minister Patnaik addressing the gathering at the state-level function.

The Chief Minister stated that development of agriculture and welfare of farmers is the top priority of the state government.

“The state government has constituted Agriculture Cabinet which has taken several significant decisions for the farmers. More funds have been sanctioned for Agriculture in the budget and it has been decided to dig one lakh borewells in the current year. We have decided to constitute a task force for development and research in agriculture,” Patnaik said.

Citing that the Met department has predicted good rainfall, Patnaik wished the farming community happiness and prosperity.

At the outset, Patnaik sowed paddy seeds to mark the occasion.

The Chief Minister felicitated successful farmers and inaugurated an agriculture exhibition organized to mark the occasion.
