Earlier in the day, following ruckus by Congress and BJP members in the House over the issue leading to repeated adjournments, Speaker Nirajan Pujari through a ruling had directed the state government to place a statement before the House on the Patrapur gangrape case.

The issue was raised during Zero Hour by Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra, who repeated his demand of a Crime Branch (CB) probe into the incident and a statement from Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

BJP legislature party leader KV Singhdeo also demanded a statement from Patnaik.
