Odisha CM sanctions Rs 2.49 crore for redevelopment of Bahanaga High School

Bhubaneswar: The Bahanaga High School in Balasore district of Odisha will be redeveloped under the 5T initiative of the state government.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has sanctioned Rs 2.49 crore from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) for the high school redevelopment work, said a senior official today.

As per the direction of the Chief Minister, 5T Secretary VK Pandian had held discussions with the students of Bahanaga High School, teachers, managing committee members, local representatives and Balasore Collector on various issues.

Notably, Bahanaga High School had served as a temporary mortuary for the victims of a major train accident in the locality on June 2.

More than 250 bodies of the train accident victims were kept at the school for two days, sources said.

The state government was forced to demolish a portion of the school and rebuild it after many parents expressed their reluctance to send their children to the institute.

The school was reopened yesterday after the completion of summer vacation. However, only 112 students out of the total 556 studying in Class I to X attended the classes.
