Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today sanctioned Rs 2 crore for transformation of poet Gangadhar Meher’s birthplace at Barpali in Bargarh district.

“The sanctioned funds will be spent for the development and beautification of eminent Odia poet Gangadhar Meher’s birthplace at Barpali in Bargarh,” said an official.

As per the plan, a building and a park would be built in the memory of Meher, popularly known as Swabhaba Kabi in Odisha.

“After transformation, Meher’s birthplace will attract lakhs of visitors from across the state,” said the official.

Notably, 5T Secretary VK Pandian had visited Meher’s birthplace on June 26 and paid tributes to the renowned poet. He had also held discussions with the locals regarding the development of Meher’s memorial at Barpali.
