Odisha CM takes stock of Ratha Jatra preparations in Puri

Puri: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today reviewed the preparations for the annual Ratha Jatra of Lord Jagannath and his siblings to be held in pilgrim town Puri on July 14.

Chairing the final Ratha Jatra Coordination Committee meeting here, Patnaik sought cooperation of Shree Jagannath Temple servitors to ensure smooth conduct of the festival.

“I reviewed the arrangements and with the Lord’s blessings, everything will go well and safely,” the CM said speaking to reporters after the meeting.

DGP R.P. Sharma, who attended the meeting, said the focus will be on crowd management and safety of the devotees visiting the shrine during the occasion. Security-related matters were discussed with Railway Police and Coastal security agencies at the meeting, the top cop said.

Sharma further informed that 140 platoons of police force, two units of Rapid Action Force and Odisha Swift Action Force will be deployed to avoid any untoward incident. Besides, 800 police officers will be mobilised to ensure safety in and outside the temple, the official said.

The meeting focused on streamlining all arrangements including security, proper parking facilities, timely completion of rituals, devotee accommodation, health service and drainage.
