Odisha CM to launch ‘Aahaar’ scheme on Utkal Diwas

Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik would launch the ‘Aahaar’ scheme simultaneously at the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar and the Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) in Rourkela on the Utkal Diwas on April 1.

aahaarThis was decided at a high level review meeting presided over by the chief minister at the State Secretariat here today.

It was decided that the Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC), Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC), Tata Steel and Industrial Development Corporation of Odisha (IDCO) would provide financial assistance for implementation of the ‘Aahaar’ scheme in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Brahmapur, Sambalpur and Rourkela cities.

While OMC will sponsor the scheme in Bhubaneswar and Cuttackwhile OPGC, Tata Steel and IDCO would fund it in Rourkela, Brahmapur and Sambalpur cities respectively.

The state government has entrusted two voluntary organisations—Touchstone Foundation and Manna Trust— to run the scheme.

All preparation,s including infrastructure work, food transport and appointment of staff, for the scheme have been completed, the meeting informed.

The chief minister asked the officials to ensure proper sanitation measures at these centres with regular visit and supervision.

The scheme is meant to provide low-cost and hygienic meal comprising rice and dalma at Rs 5 each to 20,000 poor people with 4000 to be fed in each of these five cities.

These centres are opened near the railway station, bus stand, hospital and other important places in these cities.

Among others, the chief secretary, development commissioner, additional chief secretary to chief minister, additional chief secretary, Finance, secretary, Urban Development and director general of police (DGP) were present at the meeting.
