Odisha CM to lay stone for metro rail project tomorrow

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is all set to lay the foundation stone for Bhubaneswar Metro Rail project on January 1 (Monday).

The Chief Minister will lay the foundation stone at a ceremony at Ratagada Lenka Sahi near Trishulia in Cuttack tomorrow. Many people from Bhubaneswar Central, Bhubaneswar North and Banki Assembly constituencies will attend the ceremony, sources said.

The Chief Minister will reach Trishulia via Airport Square, Sachibalaya Marg and Nandankanan. Thousands of people will greet the Chief Minister on his way to Trishulia, sources added.

The Chief Minister had announced a metro rail project for the capital region on the occasion of Utkal Diwas on April 1.

In the first phase, the project will connect Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in the capital city here with Trisulia Square. The project will be constructed with an expenditure of Rs 6,255 crore.

The first phase of the metro rail project will cover 26 km and 20 stations including Capital Hospital, Rajmahal Square, Vani Vihar Square, Jaydev Vihar Square and Patia Square.

The Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation has signed an agreement with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for execution of the first phase of the project.
