Odisha coal mine mishap: Body parts of final missing person recovered

Angul: Body parts of the fourth and final missing person in the coal mine mishap in Odisha’s Talcher has been recovered.

A leg and some internal organs of deceased Ramesh Das of Lakeipasi village were recovered from the spot. Those were handed over to his family members after post-mortem. Das was working as a security guard at the coal mine.

Earlier, bodies and body parts of three others– Pupun Biswal (driver), Rashmi Ranjan Behera (supervisor) and Raj Kishore (pump khalasi)– were recovered.

The accident occurred following a strata collapse on July 23 at the Bharatpur opencast mining project in the Talcher Coalfields of state-run Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL).

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased.
