Odisha college bans entry of bikes inside campus

Taking note of rash driving by the students inside the college premises, authorities of Vikram Deb Autonomous College at Jeypore in Odisha’s Koraput district have banned the use of bikes inside the campus from today.

The decision of the college authorities came in response to scores of complaints on rash driving of bikes inside the campus and reports of outsiders frequently entering the the college campus in bikes and threatening the students.

Talking to the media, principal of the college, C Savitri, said though the college authorities had warned the students several times to refrain from driving bikes inside the campus, they did not pay any heed.

“We had no option but to frame a rule to ensure the safety of the students. The rule would also be applicable to the visitors too,” she added.

She however, said that the students are allowed to come inside the campus with their bi-cycles.

Set up in 1947, the college is one of the largest educational institutions of the state with the student strength of around 4,000.
